Children and Obesity

I have seen the below advertisement recently, which was conveying a strong message to parents about children and obesity.

The message in the picture is reproduced below:

The early indicators of heart disease have been found in the arteries of babies only a year old. That’s how quickly the wrong diet can affect the body.

A severe reminder that giving your child the right food is so important from day one.

  1. Very true that child obesity is a major problem in the West, and a significant problem in urban India. Around 30% of urban school children have been found to be overweight or obese. 80% of these children grow up into obese adults.
Television watching is the single most important variable affecting weight loss programs in children.

  2. Rombodoc,

You are right. Parents are too busy, working. With nuclear families, no one to take care of the children at home. This is sad, but it is the reality.

  3. The thought of such children around us is pretty scary!!!
