Global Migration : Snapshot

NY Times says in its article Snapshot: Global Migration that 190 million people (roughly 3% of the world’s population) lives outside their country of birth in 2005.

Few interesting statics out of this snapshot :

Country Net Inflow of Migrants2002-2005 Money sent home by migrants (in USD)
United States +1,299,000 $2.92 billion
Mexico -797,000 $24.50 billion
China -380,000 $22.49 billion
India -270,000 $26.90 billion
Philippines -180,000 $14.92 billion
Pakistan -248,000 $5.40 billion
Indonesia -200,000 $1.88 billion

Though the number of migrant Indians are less than China, the money sent back to India is much higher than China.
