NY Times says in its article Snapshot: Global Migration that 190 million people (roughly 3% of the world’s population) lives outside their country of birth in 2005.
Few interesting statics out of this snapshot :
| Country | Net Inflow of Migrants2002-2005 | Money sent home by migrants (in USD) |
| United States | +1,299,000 | $2.92 billion |
| Mexico | -797,000 | $24.50 billion |
| China | -380,000 | $22.49 billion |
| India | -270,000 | $26.90 billion |
| Philippines | -180,000 | $14.92 billion |
| Pakistan | -248,000 | $5.40 billion |
| Indonesia | -200,000 | $1.88 billion |
Though the number of migrant Indians are less than China, the money sent back to India is much higher than China.
